Building A Basic Maternity Clothes Wardrobe

For some women, choosing an outfit, be it casual or party wear, can be a challenge, especially when they are pregnant. Yet, fashion experts believe that it requires little time and effort to look great and feel comfortable. Below are some useful fashion tips for mums-to-be.

Dresses, trousers, classic long-sleeve and short-sleeve shirts and skirts should be the core of any maternity clothes wardrobe for casual wear, designers say. They can be accessorised with shawls, scarves, pashminas and cardigans. Chain necklaces, earrings, bracelets, beads may add some flair to any outfit. Ballet flats, sandals and low-heeled mule shoes are a great alternative to pumps. Jersey is considered an ideal fabric for maternity clothes. It feels and looks great, and can stretch. Moreover, it is very comfortable. A jersey dress will delicately accentuate the curves and look stylish. A-line dresses will give the belly enough room and are suitable for spring and summer everyday wear. Leggings and oversized T-shirts and tank tops can be worn daily, too. Knit leggings and sweaters are a great outfit for colder months. Knits will stretch with the growth of the belly, leaving a woman feeling warm and comfortable.

There is nothing more stylish for a party than a sleeveless A-line dress flattering the gorgeous curves or a strapless dress creating an ultra-feminine look. According to some fashionistas, knee-length and floor-length dresses of all colours are all the vogue. Although bold colours are in, a classic black dress, also known as the Chanel little black dress, and a pair of suede flats or low-heeled elegant shoes may help women look super-elegant and stylish. Fine or costume jewellery may be added to complete the look.

Business women can create a formal look without the typical black-skirt-and-white-blouse outfit. Dresses of neutral colours paired with a jacket can be an alternative to common business wear. One may opt for dresses accentuating the curves or the ones that are designed to delicately distract from the rapidly-growing belly. A pair of simple ballet flats or dressy loafers is believed to be perfect for business wear. Jacket off, and this formal outfit can be worn at a party, if accessorised with a string of beads, a fashion watch or oversized earrings. Simply by changing shoes, bags and other accessories, one can create a new look, even when wearing the same items from the basic maternity clothes wardrobe.

Active mums-to-be should go for long or short sleeve hoodies, sports tees, tanks, workout slacks and shorts widely available in the maternity clothes department. Physical activities such as yoga, Pilates classes, brisk walking, jogging require freedom of movement. Fabrics that are flexible and allow the skin to breathe are recommended for exercising. Thus, comfort should be top priority when selecting sports maternity clothes and footwear.

Looking attractive and, what is more important, feeling confident during pregnancy can be easy and inexpensive, fashion experts say. Having a regular maternity clothes wardrobe made up of basic fashion items and experimenting with colours, cuts, shapes and styles, any mum-to-be may look great on any occasion.
