Sometimes men complain that their wives or girlfriends spend too much time on getting dressed when it seems to be so easy to pick up any piece of clothes from a wardrobe and be ready in 5 minutes. Women disagree with them explaining that it is all because they don’t have anything to wear. Even a wardrobe stuffed with all possible items cannot help solve this problem. Deciding what to wear is a question of creating a certain image that makes women look unique and stylish. When getting pregnant, women experience some body changes and realise they don’t fit anymore into their favourite trousers and blouses and have to go shopping for maternity dresses.
Nowadays, women can go to a shop specialised in maternity wear and pick up something trendy. Modern maternity clothes grow together with mums-to-be but at the same time they are not baggy anymore and come in rather flattering designs. Yet some centuries ago women couldn’t allow themselves to have dresses which could fit only for some months in their wardrobes. Dresses were rather loose and didn’t hug women’s figures so there were no problems when one’s baby began to grow under one’s dress. If women overgrew their old dresses they could just open seams, and dresses turned into maternity dresses. Those women who were coming from more well-off families could afford themselves to sew dresses to wear them when pregnant. As those dresses could fit only at some stages of pregnancy and were not completely worn out women could pass them to their expecting relatives.
Modern mums-to-be wear more fashionable clothes than baggy dresses with opened seams. Skinny jeans, shorts, sleeveless tops and tunics remain in wardrobes even when women come to know they are going to have a baby. Of course, maternity clothes can come with some improvements to relieve pain in backs and bellies, which some women might have, and smooth the appearance of the belly and the belly button. But maternity dresses remain feminine and elegant even though they are tight figure hugging ones.
The fashion industry allows modern women to wear trousers, jeans and skirts but dresses remain a favourite outfit for many ladies. Stylists and fashion designers advise women to have more than one dress in their wardrobe. First of all, women should have several light summer dresses. They can be worn with flat footwear like sandals and flip flops which are popular among women who are afraid of wearing high heels during pregnancy. Yet high heels can go with this type of dresses too. It is enough to slip on a jacket over summer maternity dresses in the evening and put on closed toe shoes and one’s look changes in a second.
Another type of dresses which women can add to their wardrobes is an evening dress. The little black dress is available for mums-to-be too. They can come with a deep scoop neck and long or elbow sleeves with an empire or smocked waist. Maxi-dresses that reach ankles can be worn even before women get pregnant. Their loose design and length elongate silhouettes and allow women to emphasise their bust or waist. These dresses can be worn with flat shoes or high heels. Designers also offer maternity dresses with back ties which are very convenient as women can loosen them when they grow. It can be noted that modern maternity dresses come in such a variety that women can spend even more time deciding what to wear.
