Maternity Swimwear: How To Choose It Right

Many pregnant women love to swim, as it helps them keep fit without straining their back. Besides, swimming is very refreshing when you are pregnant during hot summer months.  Choosing a fitting maternity swimwear has never been easier than today, when hundreds of high street and online maternity stores display their beautiful swimwear collections. And still, before buying a swimsuit it is nice to know what to look for in this item of maternity clothing.

Exposure

The first thing to consider in your maternity swimwear is how much of your skin you want to reveal. If you are a little-bit self-conscious about your changing body, a one-piece or a tankini should be a good choice, as they allow covering the baby bump up. A tankini may be a flattering design for you if you want to show some of your belly, while not displaying too much. On the other hand, if you are proud of your growing tummy, and don’t mind showing it to the world, you may purchase a beautiful pregnant bikini, and have fun with it. By the way, if you prefer to take focus off your hip area, you may find very nice skirted bikini options, or two-piece swimwear with boy cut shorts.

Purpose

A type of a swimsuit also depends on its ultimate purpose: if you plan on swimming laps during your aquatic work-outs or attending antenatal classes, than a tankini or a one piece may be the best option for you. However, if you prefer sunbathing to actual swimming, then you may choose less practical and more stylish maternity swimwear.

Support

Support and comfort are very important in maternity swimwear. Look for halter tops, enhanced straps, and additional layers at the bust, as they provide the needed support for your body, without sacrifices to the design of a swimsuit.

Colour/ Pattern

Traditionally, black is considered the only right colour for those who want to look slimmer; however, it can hardly hide your pregnancy. So why not choose brightly coloured maternity swimwear, or a swimsuit with exciting patterns? In fact, patterns draw eyes away from your abdomen and towards your upper body and face. A print halter swimsuit top with a pleated skirt may be a very flattering construction for every pregnant woman.

Material

When shopping for maternity swimwear, pay special attention to the material. Some pregnant women prefer natural fabrics opting for cotton swimsuits.  On the other hand, a blend of spandex and nylon can also be a nice alternative, as it expands a lot.  Another important factor to search for in your swimwear is appropriate UVA and UVB resistance to protect your skin from excessive sunshine.

Being pregnant does not mean you should limit yourself in your clothing choices. Beautiful and comfortable maternity swimwear is a great option for pregnant women who like to swim for pleasure or for staying fit during pregnancy. With this simple instruction on what to look for in your prospective swimsuit shopping for your best swimwear will be easy and a lot more fun than before.
